The 8th Annual Steel Pier Classic featuring the …Lost Shortboard Pro went off this past Memorial Day weekend at the 1st Street Jetty in Virginia Beach with over 45 pro competitors entered and ready to battle it out for some cash! The surf for all 3 days was super contestable and really fun around the right tides ranging from waist to shoulder high with clean conditions. Standouts during the event included Lucas Rogers, former ASP-East champ Jason Borte, Cole Richards, VB grom Jennings Sessoms, Connie Lester, Ryan Leopold, Maryland’s Vince Boulanger and …Lost team rider Barry Price Jr. The quarters and semis were all super close but there could only be 4 finalists. The final heat was held at dead low tide which meant for slightly smaller and less consistent surf but the action was hot with a seesaw battle going on between VB’s Philip Goold, Florida’s Mark Dawson, the pride of South Carolina Cam Richards and NC’s Owen Moffit. Cam Richards started the heat off with a solid air reverse and Owen Moffit found a few mid-range scores towards the Jetty but it was Philip and Mark who really got things going with both guys racking up two solid scores on righthanders. Philip looked like the man to beat until Dawson found a runner with minutes left to seal the heat win. His heat winning wave consisted of 3 solid forehand bashes and finishing with a smooth yet powerful air reverse. The crowd erupted and he was pumped. Mark won $1500 and a …Lost Surfskate and now is the 2011 …Lost Shortboard Pro champ at the Steel Pier Classic.

The Virginia Beach Surf Art Expo, now in its fourth year, features the unique surf art
creations of professional artists along the boardwalk and is held in conjunction with the Steel

Meanwhile on the beach, the VLF produces a student art show that showcases the art
work of Virginia Beach high school art students. Clothing manufacturer RVCA is building the
RVCA Art Pavilion which will showcase the surf themed art and surf/skate footwear icon Vans is
bringing its “Custom Culture” experience to Virginia Beach.
The VLF is a nonprofit organization. Proceeds from this annual event are distributed to
worthy causes in the community through organizations such as the Virginia Beach Noblemen.
