Starting with a 6.5, he then dropped a 9.17. But wait, having Bede comboed he then pig-dogged his way to a perfect 10. Wardo put him to Bed. GORKIN WINS VQS......almost VQS Champs May 9-11
Gorkin blew up through the quarters and semis of the air show with last minute air attempts. A completed one-motion frontside in the quarters, and a huge backside air in the semis, saw him advance into the Final. With Ratboy, Killian, one brazilian, Barca, and Hoyer the final was stacked. Gorkin had a plan to shut everyone out by pulling the Gorkin flip, which he almost accomplished on his first wave. With a 90% completion, the $7,000 was damn near his. Despite the giant prize purse Gorkin was the only surfer in all the finals of the event to not make a penny.

Peru Update We held our latest Board Demo at Playa Blanca. The waves were solid 8 feet and kindda closing out so the boards got tested under some heavy conditions. “Pallaron” stole the show whipping his 200 lbs around on a 5’6 RNF in some serious surf. That’s what good design can do!

The surf was going off and with Mason, Cheese Burger and John-Michael all in town the boyz were killing it wherever they went. LOWERS WQS 2008 5/4/08 - The Final was as exciting to watch as the rest of the event. If you weren't there or didn't watch online, lowers pumped for the final two days and we watched an amazing display of talent from many surfers. Two WCT surfers and two gruelers slogging it out on the WQS, grinded their way into the final. But it was Benny B. who was in the best rhythm with the ocean. He had a 8.83 and a 8.33 and was walking away with the title. Then Freddy P. surfed a wave with aggression, as he was all event, and gave himself a shot at the crown. Chendo won Open Mens on his Mayhem, Alessandro Luis landed second in Juniors on his Mayhem, Lucca Mesina won under-12 and leads the rankings, Natalia Labarthe got 3rd in girls under 18 and won girls under 14 while Melanie Giunta landed 2nd in girls under 14.

Haley, an aspiring artist, Newport Harbor student and surfer, created a surfboard with many gidgets, gadgets and lights. It even had shark repellant odor. YEARLY BLOTTER 1989 Shawn Briley was spending the summer in Huntington beach with family. He claimed he was old enough to work and got a job at Jack's in HB. Mike Reola was working there too while living on Jeff Matula's floor behind the old Charbroil Chicken (eventually Java Jungle) up the rickety outside stairs of the blue building behind it. LOST ARTIST PROFILE - HUNG TRAN Hung is the guy who did the "Snap Crackle Lost" tee back in 2005. He also was part of the local crew along which included Kenworthy, Divel, Strander, Godett, Ryan Ray, and many others that helped put Lost on the local map. The gnarliest we ever saw Hung get was when he took on a whole pack of metal freaks at a Brian Ramirez party. He also drew one of Lost's best snowboard ads - kind of a star wars inspired mural for the pages of "Happy" magazine. Hung is one of the best portrait artists we have come across. ALBERGA vs SLATER 10/26/2006: The highly anticipated match up may be going down this weekend after Melbourne's Marshall Alberga clinched a wild card spot into the Sean Slater Invitational at Cocoa Beach in which Kelly Slater will be competing this weekend. RETIREMENT RUMORS 10/30/2006: After his embarrassing lost to 18 year-old amateur surfer Marshall Alberga the rumors are that 8 time world champion Kelly Slater is contemplating retirement. He has already pulled out of the Brasil WCT this week, an event he had stated he was going to surf in until his lost to Alberga. Slater also had this to say in today's Florida Today, "I'm still up in the air...it's fun to be home". Not only is Marshall the only Lost rider to beat Kelly in a final he may be the first one to send a world champ into retirement.

MASON HO AWARDED ASP JUNIORS WILD CARD SLOT FOR 2007 After placing an impressive 3rd in the recent ASP Juniors World Championships in Australia Mason Ho was awarded the 2007 World Juniors WQS Wild Card slot for 2007. What does that mean? Mason will now be automatically seeded at least into the round of 144 in all of the 2007 WQS events. This now gives Mason an even greater chance of making the 2008 WCT tour -and judging from Mason's performance at the 2006 US Open in Huntington Beach it's not that far fetched a goal. Look for Mason to rattle a few cages on this year's tour. Good luck Mason.

Kyle Berard wins 10,000 Growing up with a mini ramp in his backyard has paid off for Mr. Kyle Berard.
With his smooth consistent mini ramp skills Kyle took home another win at the Surf Expo mini ramp contest in Orlando Florida. With Volcom forking out a 35,000 purse there was no shortage of talent. Skaters from all over put it down and the session was more than on!! It all ended up with Kyle Berard taking home 1st place and 10,000 of Volcom's money..

MASON HO WINS SUNSET BEACH JUNIOR PRO Mason Ho notched up another win this weekend by taking the ASP 2006 Hard Rock Junior Pro at Sunset Beach. Needing another score Mason took off on a wave, managed to do a turn despite not having an outside fin and got the score he needed to advance. Riding a two year-old board in the final Mason scored an 8 something and never looked back defeating Kyle Ramey, Clay Marzo and John John Florence. Congratulations Mason, now Pops isn't the only one in the house that's won a Sunset contest.

JAY JOHNSON WINS LAKERS SURFBOARD CONTEST The Los Angeles Lakers launched a "Lakerize" your surfboard contest recently. The Lakers' organization picked the top 20 people with the best Lakers design on their surfboard to come to the Laker Beach House in Hermosa on the strand for an afternoon. The Laker girls picked the top 6 boards for the finals and Luke Walton judged and picked the final 3 spots. Lost rider and Surfing Live CEO Jay Johnson's design took first place. REMEMBERING JACK MEYER On Jan 7th I was in Florida for the upcoming Surf Expo driving back to Melbourne Beach from Sebastian Inlet. On the left side of the road were about 20 people surrounding a body on the sidewalk. A man was pounding the bare chest trying to get life back into the body. I'll never forget the sight. The Aussies Prevail in the fourth Round... The swell dropped but the waves are still going off and the competition is pretty heavy. US Open Circus day 1__You Missed It! Team ...Lost dominates Battle of the Brands event!...at least the first round. We smoked the field in the first round of The Battle Of The Brands, scoring the highest combined heat score of the first round. The contest was a tag team event with each brand's team of four surfers. We looked the strongest on paper going into the final but then things just didn't go our way. Shea's double-wammy wave was a 1.0 and we even managed to get fined 5 points for not getting our last person into the beach. We did finish fourth so that's not too bad.

LOST EL PASO INVITATIONAL ABSOLUTELY EPIC! 4/16/08 - Simply, the waves and level of surfing were on fire at El Paso, Punta Hermosa-Peru.
We lucked out with the swell of the year –perfect direction, solid 6 to 8 feet, low tides, glassy and sunny all day. The stage was set and the surfing went ballistic. We bought every competitor lunch and kept it a good days’ fun by structuring the heats by group of friends. Everyone had a blast! Waves were 2 foot (shoulder high+ sets), glassy and fast - resembling a semi-closed out mix between Rivvi and the Pier. Semifinalists were Sterling Spencer and Nathaniel Curran. Asher Nolan had the highest heat scores that last few rounds but the waves starved him in the quarters.
We had a long day in the sun which was a sweet change from the last few days.
LOST.TV - AXI MUNIAN RIPPING MADEIRA ISLAND LOST.TV - Check out these clips of European ...Lost rider Axi Munian charging the waves at Madeira Island. Axi scored some epic surf on his recent trip - from huge rights to rippable lefts. Axi is definitely not scared of big waves breaking over gnarly rocks. He manages to get himself dry-docked on some pretty heavy ones again but still paddles out for more.
LOST.TV - CHRIS WARD BELLS VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS LOST.TV - Check out these clips of Chris Ward from the recent Bells Beach WCT down in Australia. Wardo lost out in round 2 but not before he blasted one of the biggest airs ever done during the Bells contest. Ward ended up scoring a 9.0 on the wave but didn't have a good back-up score to push him through the heat. Check out the wave in the video below plus some more early round action.
